Abstract

Language and religion are two fundamental forces that shape the culture and identity of a society. Literature serves as a powerful medium through which religious beliefs, cultural values, and philosophical ideas are preserved and transmitted across generations. This paper examines the relationship between religion, culture, and literature with special reference to English and Tamil literary traditions. It explores how devotional and religious literature contributed to the moral, spiritual, and intellectual development of society. The study also highlights the significance of comparative literature in promoting intercultural understanding by identifying similarities and differences among literary traditions across the world. In addition, the paper emphasizes the role of translation studies in bringing regional literary works into the sphere of world literature.
