Abstract

The tribal communities of India represent unique socio‑cultural systems shaped by traditional livelihoods, indigenous knowledge, and distinct consumption patterns. This study examines the cultural economy, food consumption behaviour, and nutritional status of the Gond and Kharwar tribal groups residing in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh. Using mixed‑method research, the study analyses socio‑economic determinants, dietary diversity, cultural food practices, and the economic constraints influencing nutrition. The findings highlight the interplay between cultural traditions and economic vulnerabilities, revealing gaps in food security, nutritional adequacy, and access to welfare schemes. The study proposes policy recommendations to strengthen livelihood opportunities, improve nutritional outcomes, and preserve cultural heritage.
